Anish Sarkar, a chess prodigy in Kolkata, India, has become the youngest FIDE-rated player in history at three years, eight months, and 19 days of age. Born on January 26, 2021, Anish achieved this feat after appearing at the West Bengal State Under-9 and Under-13 tournaments held on October 2024, wherein he earned the rating of 1555, skipping the previous record held by Tejas Tiwari, who appeared to gain his rating at five years of age.
He was guided by the renowned chess coach Dibyendu Barua from the Dhanuka Dhunseri Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy and showed immense focus and talent in wrestling out victories over multiple rated players. What triggered this little boy’s interest in chess were videos about chess on YouTube, and his family has supported his passion wholistically without any expertise on their part.
